L?usage croissant d?Internet dans la vie privée et au travail nous berce dans l?illusion que nous en comprenons les principaux éléments et les enjeux. Perçu à tort comme un tout homogène, Internet est en réalité un ensemble de composantes disparate et héberge une foule d?acteurs ayant des intérêts souvent différents, parfois contradictoires. Le premier tome entend replacer Internet dans une perspective historique en montrant comment, à partir de la création du réseau dans les années 1960, nous assistons aujourd?hui à l?émergence d?une production collaborative de contenus et à l?apparition de nouvelles formes démocratiques, rendues possibles par l?invention du Web et par la constitution des réseaux sociaux en ligne. Au-delà d?une description des principales innovations, il s?agit de rappeler les hypothèses technologiques, les valeurs et les espoirs qui guidèrent le travail de ceux qui ont participé aux transformations successives d?Internet. Le lecteur trouvera également les outils conceptuels et théoriques nécessaires à une meilleure compréhension des dynamiques et des pratiques à l?oeuvre sur le Net. Le second tome se propose de déconstruire l?objet Internet pour en percevoir les principales limites dans ses trois composantes (les infrastructures, les contenus et les outils gérant ces contenus), et pour en appréhender les dangers potentiels. Cette déconstruction est la seule voie possible pour arriver à une meilleure compréhension du Net et de ses potentialités. Une telle étude passe notamment par une description des enjeux économiques, politiques et juridiques qui, au-delà des contraintes technologiques, influencent l?évolution d?Internet. Le lecteur découvrira aussi quelques pistes de réflexions à propos des évolutions possibles du Net et de sa capacité à relever les principaux défis auxquels il se trouve confronté aujourd?hui.

Advice involves recommendations on what to think; through thought, on what to choose; and via choices, on how to act. Advice is information that moves by communication, from advisors to the recipient of advice. Ivan Jureta offers a general way to analyze advice. The analysis applies regardless of what the advice is about and from whom it comes or to whom it needs to be given, and it concentrates on the production and consumption of advice independent of the field of application. It is made up of two intertwined parts, a conceptual analysis and an analysis of the rationale of advice. He premises that giving advice is a design problem and he treats advice as an artifact designed and used to influence decisions. What is unusual is the theoretical backdrop against which the author's discussions are set: ontology engineering, conceptual analysis, and artificial intelligence. While classical decision theory would be expected to play a key role, this is not the case here for one principal reason: the difficulty of having relevant numerical, quantitative estimates of probability and utility in most practical situations. Instead conceptual models and mathematical logic are the author's tools of choice. The book is primarily intended for graduate students and researchers of management science. They are offered a general method of analysis that applies to giving and receiving advice when the decision problems are not well structured, and when there is imprecise, unclear, incomplete, or conflicting qualitative information.

‘Whistleblowing’ heeft haar bakermat in de Verenigde Staten, doch dit concept krijgt langzaam maar zeker een plaats in het ‘good governance’ beleid van Europese organisaties en ondernemingen. Niet langer beschouwd als een verplicht nummer, lijkt steeds breder het besef te groeien dat een dergelijke regeling wel degelijk een toegevoegde waarde kan hebben. Niet alleen bij de overheid, maar ook in het bedrijfsleven. (Daar waar het vroeger aanzien werd als een exotische bijkomstigheid, wordt een dergelijke regeling meer en meer ingezet als hoeksteen van een weloverwogen integriteitbeleid binnen ondernemingen.) Goed uitgebalanceerde klokkenluiders-regelingen kunnen een sterk wapen zijn om de negatieve impact van immorele of illegale praktijken op ondernemingen aanzienlijk te verminderen en tegelijkertijd de verwezenlijking van een (meer) ethische werkplek te ondersteunen. Veel ondernemingen worstelen evenwel nog met tal van vooroordelen en vrezen een lawine van onterechte meldingen. Dit werk wil op een onderbouwde manier komaf maken met de bestaande misverstanden en beschrijft tegelijkertijd een aantal goede praktijken en technieken om een doeltreffend klokkenluidersysteem te laten functioneren binnen een private onderneming. Daarbij wordt zowel aandacht besteed aan aan het organisatorische luik als aan het juridische luik.

Springen in het oog: de portretfoto's van Samuel Beckett en Francis Bacon door Marc Trivier, de foto's die Tim Dirven maakte in de Oost-Europese psychiatrische instellingen, de foto's van Burundese albino's (die gezien worden als heksen door de plaatselijke bevolking) die Dieter Telemens maakte.
